Perplexity is an AI-powered research assistant that conducts multiple searches, evaluates numerous sources, and synthesizes the gathered information into detailed reports, typically within 2-4 minutes. It offers a free tier allowing up to five queries daily for non-subscribers. For more extensive use, the Pro subscription is available at $20 per month, providing up to 500 queries per day.
I am currently signed up with the $20/month plan.
Developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT is a versatile AI language model designed for natural language understanding and generation. It excels in tasks such as drafting emails, writing code, answering questions, and more. The basic version is free to use, while the Pro subscription, which includes advanced features like the Deep Research tool, is priced at $20 per month and then they have the 3rd option which offers even more at $200/month.

DeepSeek is a Chinese AI startup that has developed AI models comparable to leading alternatives but at a fraction of the cost. Their R1 model, for instance, was trained using approximately 2,000 Nvidia H800 chips at an estimated cost of $5.6 million, significantly lower than other models. DeepSeek’s AI assistant quickly became the top free app on Apple’s App Store, surpassing ChatGPT.
I like using more than 1 program because the same prompt can generate different answers.
Groq is an AI model developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, designed to compete with top AI models from companies like OpenAI and DeepSeek. There are three versions: the base Grok 3, Grok 3 Think (which enhances problem-solving through reasoning), and Grok 3 Big Brain (which further improves performance with more computing power). These models are available to X Premium+ subscribers for $40 a month.
I am currently using the free version of Groq. It’s not as good as Chat or Perplexity or even Deep Seek but it does sometimes offer a different perspective.
Napkin AI is a content creation tool that leverages artificial intelligence to assist users in generating ideas and organizing information. Specific details about its features and pricing are not readily available in the provided sources.
I love the diagrams that Napkin AI creates, it can really help to clarify some content.
Notebook LM is an AI-powered research assistant developed by Google. It helps users process and understand documents by generating summaries, highlighting key topics, and suggesting questions for further exploration. Notebook LM is currently available for free.
I have been using Notebook LM mostly to create podcast content but it can also be used to create content, disseminate other articles, etc.
